Build Emotional Resilience for Ukraine’s Children

Friends of Be an Angel is raising funds to bring the Ukrainian-language Freeing Freddie program to children in war-affected public schools Friends of Be an Angel is raising funds to bring the emotional intelligence and wellbeing program, Freeing Freddie, to children in war-affected public schools. This story-based program, available in Ukrainian, has already demonstrated significant impact through a formal research study conducted in Odesa.

About this story

Four years into Russia’s full-scale invasion, many Ukrainian children are growing up with stress, loss, and disruption that no child should have to carry.

Schools have been damaged or destroyed. Families have been displaced. Daily routines have changed again and again. For children, that can show up as anxiety, emotional dysregulation, difficulty concentrating, trouble sleeping, or feeling unsafe even in familiar places.

Specialized mental health support is not always easy to reach. Many children need tools that can meet them where they already are — in school, with trusted adults nearby, in a language they understand.

Freeing Freddie the Dream Weaver was created by Free the Mind Co as a story-based emotional intelligence program for children ages 5–13. Through a character named Freddie, children learn how to recognize emotions, manage stress, build resilience, and feel less alone.

This campaign helps bring the program to 100 children in war-affected Ukrainian public schools. The program is delivered digitally and localized in Ukrainian, so children can access the materials through school, where trusted professionals can support their learning journey.

Why support is needed now

Children affected by war need more than safety from immediate danger. They also need ways to process fear, understand emotions, stay connected, and rebuild confidence in daily life.

Freeing Freddie gives schools a practical way to bring age-appropriate emotional support into the classroom. Because the program is delivered digitally and localized in Ukrainian, children can access the materials through school without needing separate clinical visits.

Your support helps fund access to the Freeing Freddie program for Ukrainian children in war-affected public schools. Funds are managed by Friends of Be an Angel Inc, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping people displaced by conflict.
